DESY-KEK

DESY and KEK, the Japanese accelerator centre for high energy physics, have a long history in cooperation, in particular in the field of particle physics, where both institutes look back on roughly 40 years of cooperation. DESY participates in the particle physics experiment BELLE II at KEK and both laboratories are also working strongly together in the ATLAS experiment at LHC, at the future ILC detector and on superconducting accelerator technologies. There is also an enormous cooperation potential in the field of materials science and other applications of synchrotron radiation which is now being intensified.

The third DESY-KEK workshop was recently held on 7./8. March 2016 at DESY to strenghten the existing links between the laboratories and to further tap into new cooperation areas, for instance on advanced accelerator technologies and on various aspects in photon science. A joint meeting of the boards of directorates at DESY and KEK on strategic themes of the cooperation complemented the workshop.
