Joint Appointments

DESY is well embedded in a strategic cooperation network of excellent universities in Germany. An intensive form of close cooperation between DESY and universities are joint appointments of leading scientists / professors. DESY acts here as a highly attractive and reliable partner for the universities with currently 19 jointly appointed professors (W2 / W3). Among the universities with joint appointments are: University of Hamburg, Humboldt-University of Berlin, University of Potsdam, RWTH Aachen and University of Göttingen.

The KIB Office coordinates the appointment and recruitment process of leading scientists at DESY – either sole DESY appointments or jointly with universities. At the intersection of DESY directorate, the DESY research divisions (FH, FS, M) and the administration (V), KIB is the internal and external contact regarding all appointments. KIB coordinates the processes and provides support for all involved committees and organs - from the early exploratory phase to the final recruitment.

Brief information and processing paths, rapid interaction between the involved parties and a bundling of competences at KIB are prerequisites to carry out the appointments swiftly and transparently.

Essential for successful joint appointments between DESY and universities are close coordination among the two partner institutions and clear agreements about underlying processes and appointment models.
